Production incentives in the Czech Republic.
A clear overview of the Czech incentive, from budgeting and planning to application, execution and final claim.
The Czech production incentive is a state support scheme developed by the Ministry of Culture and administered by the Czech Audiovisual Fund. It has been in place since 2010 and applies to both domestic and international projects shooting in the Czech Republic.
The incentive takes the form of a cash refund on eligible costs spent in the Czech Republic: 25% for most productions, and 35% for projects focused solely on animation, post-production or specific types of digital work.
Support is available for feature films, series, animation and documentaries. These projects need to be intended for genuine distribution — in cinemas, on television or on qualifying VOD platforms.
To access the incentive, projects must pass a cultural test and meet minimum runtime and Czech spend thresholds. The incentive is calculated on eligible Czech and selected international costs up to a capped amount per project, and is paid directly to the applicant by the Czech Audiovisual Fund once production has been completed and audited in the Czech Republic.
In practice, this represents a significant reduction of overall production costs. The incentive can be integrated into the financing plan from an early stage, the system is well-established and reliable, and there are no hidden fees or deductions. Projects can be registered at any point during the year.
